Experience/Expertise? I've been riding bikes for as long as I can remember. It started with my Dad getting my brother and I girls bikes that he painted blue and put BMX handlebars on the front. John, nor I knew any better. We learned to ride on those bikes. More importantly, I learned the basic bike skills I needed to keep myself off the ground - like jumpng curbs, endos, bunny hops, skidding, etc. I graduated from the girls bike to a true BMX bike - a steel Mag-wheeled Huffy. With that bike I learned to tear a bike apart and put it back together.
The next phase was mountain bikes. My brother and I had the first mtn. bikes in the neighborhood. I went through a Diamond Back, Haro and a GT Mtn bike. I raced the GT occasionally through college. My focus was on lacrosse until my early 30's when I realized I couldn't keep up any longer. I was in San Diego and would see large groups of cyclists on Saturdays so I decided to hang the 'stick' up and get a road bike with the idea of doing some triathlons. I bought a Lemond Buenes Aires and started riding. This lead to me getting into triathlons and getting a Felt Time Trial bike. I completed Ironman Coure d'Alene in 2004. That was kind of the end of my 'Tri' career. I started focusing on just riding and started Road Racing.
I am currently a Cat 3 road and Cat 2 Mountain Bike racer. I can hang pretty tough in most Cat 3 races and run real strong in the mtn. bike races. I've also dabbled in Cyclocross races. It's all about having fun.
What do you like the best? Road, Mountain, Cyclocross and why? My favorite is Cross. But the truth is I like them all. It keeps me interested if I'm on a different bike every now and then
Most memorable race or ride? First Road Race, getting dropped twice and catching back on. Realizing that you can never quit.
Why do you ride? Because it keeps me sane - and it is FUN.

More: After retiring from corporate life, Chris, working with Steve and the staff, has been working on the strategic vision that Cool Breeze and the Trek Store were founded on in 2005. The central theme has been and continues to be to introduce more people to the joys of cycling from young kids to older adults.
Chris has been a long time recreational rider and rates himself as a C+ to B- rider. Mountain biking is the greater passion but he is also very happy on a road bike or commuter as well.
He, along with his wife, Cyndie, have become veterans of Trek Travel trips including bike tours in Europe, the Pacific Northwest, California and the New Mexico mountains. In 2011 they climbed Alpe d’Huez and survived Mont Vontoux in 2013.
Chris can be found riding at many charity events in the local area and occasionally participating in local races. He can also be found mountain biking, road biking and hiking in the Western Carolina mountains; particularly around Beech Mountain.
His personal bike fleet is ever changing but has recently added a road bike with special mountain climbing gearing to his stable and does manage to find occasions to ride all 9 of his bikes.
